This STEINWAY & SONS grand piano Model M (Medium Grand, 5'7" or 170cm) was made in New York at the end of 1928. Bought in New York in 1990 from the original owner.
SERIAL NUMBER: 264614
SOUNDBOARD: original, intact.
ACTION: overhauled in 1990 by Ford Piano Co. in New York, using Renner hammers.
KEYS: original ivory, intact
FINISH: ebonized. Refinished in ebony high polish in 2000 by Ragnar Nylund in Finland.
This exceptionally well-preserved instrument has a sound that is rich and deep in the lower and middle registers, and bright on top. This is typical of prewar Steinways, and this quality distinguishes them from the ones made in New York today (in the same size), many of which, unfortunately, tend to be thin on the bottom and dull on the top.
